Story Behind the Book

Story Behind the Book

There were 11 wives of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) throughout his life. He was 25 years old when he married Sayyida Khadija (R.A).

Some people accuse the Holy Prophet (PBUH) of being hypersexual because he had eleven wives but they forget that he married the rest after the death of Sayyida Khadija (R.A). If you study the life history of the Prophet (PBUH), only two of his marriages one with Khadija (R.A), and the other, with Aisha (R.A) were marriages conducted in a normal course. All his other marriages were contracted as a necessity and were based on various considerations.

There was a need to educate people to clear their misconceptions and highlight the importance and need of the wives of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and their benefit to this Ummah. Darussalam published the book “The Honorable Wives of the Prophet (PBUH)” discussing the seerah and incidents of the Prophets (PBUH) wives along with explanations to common misconceptions for this very purpose.

Why This Book

Why This Book

Who were the wives of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), also known as the mothers of believers? What were their lives like and what role did they play in the spread of Islam?

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) has been sent by Allah to this World so that people may follow him and succeed to win Paradise. Allah Almighty has recommended the people of the World to follow the Seerah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) however we must also note that some exceptions in the life of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) only pertain to him.

The number of wives allowed is one of those exceptions. The people of this Ummah cannot have more than four wives at a time. But the Holy Prophet (PBUH) was allowed to do multiple marriages. But why? There were many long term reasons behind this.

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) had a total of 11 wives in his life and 9 in a time. He was 25 years old when he married Sayyida Khadija (R.A) when she was 40 years old. All of the other marriages were conducted after her death.

This is book is a descent guide to the wives of the prophet pbuh, if not a detailed guide. I learnt several things from the book especially, about the lineage and geneology of the wives. . . A must read if you want knowledge on the wives of the prophet pbuh but want to read something precise. This book is short (135 pages) but holds enough description on the Prophet's wives. . . I throughly enjoyed reading this book. I will definitely pick up more books of Darussalam.

I started reading this book cause I felt kind of ashamed that I don’t know about the mothers of the believers. The book is great at giving an overview and I like that it very much that it provides context instead of just listing the wives and telling us about them but I was kind of hoping for some more on the wives themselves. Or some more details on the things mentioned. Like for example the reason for the prophet PBUH’s temporary divorce from Hafsah bint Umar (RA). Despite all, however, I definitely think it’s a great summary and a good place to start for anyone who would like to learn about this topic.

I really liked this book. The bios of the wives of the Prophet s.a.w. were engaging and informative, for all that they were brief. With a sparsity of words the author was still able to convey the facts, and without using too much emotive language, there was still an emotional connection to the story of each Mother of the Believers from this reader. I would recommend this to somebody who wanted to get a bite-size taste of who the honourable women, who married our beloved Prophet s.a.w. were, and a bit about their lives, and marriage.

This book is a solid introduction to the lives of the Prophet's wives. At 135 pages, it's by no means an exhaustive account, but gives a concise overview of each wife: her genealogy, when she was born, how and when she became Muslim, any marriage(s) she might have had before the Prophet (saw), how she came to marry him, notable events during her marriage to him, and an account of her death. As we know the most about Khadijah and Aisha, may Allah be pleased with them, their sections are the longest in the book. Written in a more accessible style (aside from a couple of repeated odd word choices) than most books I have seen from this publisher, this book is a quick read. The book's design is attractive, and at less than $10 for the hardcover, it's also a bargain. Recommended to read in conjunction with Imam Suhaib Webb's audio lecture series "The Mothers of the Believers".

Very informative for someone who knows little about the wives of the Prophet s.a.w. Definitely a page turner and left me wishing there was more.

A good little book that gives a brief introduction to all the wives. Easy to read and definitely something I’ll keep to re-read in the future
