In today’s Western-influenced society, Islam is often viewed not as a complete way of life but merely as a religion of rituals and acts of worship. It is also propagated that Islam is silent on matters of modern technology and medical science, and all credit in these fields is given solely to Europe. In reality, this is a grave injustice. If one removes the lens of prejudice and studies Islam sincerely, one will find guidance in every aspect of life, both religious and worldly.
In Western societies, patients suffering from incurable diseases are sometimes given a drug containing poison, which ends their troubled and irregular life. Islam, however, commands us to stay away from such medicines. From Islamic teachings, we learn that illness is in fact a sign of Allah’s mercy.
Through illness, the sins of a believer are forgiven. Allah accepts the patient’s humility, remembrance, and glorification of Him, and grants such a person Paradise.
The present book “In the Hospital – With Doctor and Patient” is originally an Arabic work by Dr. Muhammad Abdul Rahman Al-Arifi, which has been beautifully translated into Urdu by Maulana Hafiz Qamar Hasan. The author has highlighted the religious rulings concerning the patient, the doctor, and medical treatment. The book also mentions the virtues of visiting the sick as well as the etiquettes associated with it.
May Allah elevate the ranks of the author and the translator, and enable the Muslim community to benefit greatly from their efforts.
